This can even be done on-the-fly, as the gameplay-heavy trailer shows in a cut-scene with Darius using the Nano-Forge to construct a collapsed bridge as he runs across it. The Nano-Forge from the previous games is back, but this time it not only disintegrates people and objects but can also repair them. It's one big game of connect-the-dots, but with ordinance. Throw an alien into the side of a building or, for that matter, throw the side of a building into an alien. What does this mean? The only limit is your imagination. You fire the gun at one object, then at a second object, and the first object collides into the second. Darius uses a magnet gun which is relatively similar to the oft-copied zero-g gun from the Half-Life series. Take heart Red Faction fans, you'll have plenty of things that go "bang!" to make the trip worth your while.
On one of his runs, Darius opens a shaft in a Marauder temple, releasing the aforementioned scaly guys and sending the already hellish Martian quality of life spiraling even lower than that of Detroit. Darius is a hardened businessman who wants nothing more than to venture to the surface now and then to smuggle goods between settlements. The players take on the role of Darius Mason, grandson of the heroes of Red Faction: Guerilla, Alec Mason and Samanya. Get ready for a tunnel-crawl with big guns. They have some scaly neighbors who want nothing more than to taste man-flesh (more on that in a sec). But, much to their surprise, they're not alone. This delightful turn of events has forced the entire population of the planet to seek refuge in the mines dug by the original Red Faction miners. A giant meteor has hit Mars and destroyed the Terraformer which made the Martian atmosphere and breathable air. It's 2170, forty-five years after the events of the last game in the series, Red Faction: Guerrilla. That's right, Red Faction fans Generations after the original Red Faction won Mars its freedom from the evil Ultor Corporation and proceeded to engage in decades of civil war, the humans are no longer at the top of the food chain. Or, rather, sneak up behind them and make creepy slobbering noises until they turn around and THEN eat them. Yes, David Bowie – there is life on Mars. Two kinds of life in fact: the scrappy lads and lasses from the Red Faction and the hideous aliens who want to eat them.
